One of the remote support applications I use
is the free version of CrossLoop.
Is a lightweight remote control application that does not require a
pre-configured router or firewall. The installation is simple but there
are a few pitfalls as they try to get you to sign up for an account
and/or premium service. Below are the steps to avoid both.Minimal
Installation Instructions:
- First
click here to download the installer. You may get a warning from
your browser or security software depending on your settings. Make
the appropriate acknowledgements to download the file. Eventually
you will get your download dialog something like the example below.
Click Run. Bear in mind some security software may
interfere with the Run method. If you can not figure a way around
this save to disk and run from there.
- You will see a progress indicator like this as it downloads.
- Once it has downloaded click Run. After this
screen you may see a UAC (User
Account Control) prompt in Vista or Windows 7 depending on your
settings. Allow it to install.
- Click OK to accept the default language.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Check the radio button to accept the agreement and click
Next.
- Uncheck the two option boxes and click Next.
- Click Install.
- Wait for this progress indicator to complete.
- Click Finish to complete the installation.
- Do not create an account, instead click Skip.
- Below is the actual CrossLoop application. In order for me to
connect select the share tab, send me the Access Code, and click
Connect. This does not connect to me but rather to the
CrossLoop server which acts as a go-between facilitating our
connection.
Note: On my end I use the Access tab and type in your Access Code
and Connect to you.
- Once I click Connect on my end your system will ask if it's OK
to let me connect. Click Yes.
- At this point I will be able to see your desktop and control
your system. Bear in mind that both of us have control so mind
unintended mouse moves or typing.
